Because of Luck or Fate, I attended UFC63 this evening at the Annaheim Pond this evening. It all started last Wednesday when I went out for drinks with a publicist named Belinda that I met about a year ago. At drinks we discovered that we were both fans of Ultimate Fighting. So we decided to try and see the fight this weekend. I used my press credentials to contact the publicist for UFC but was not successful. Then Belinda got a pair of ticket from a friend so we went. It was good fun. The Main event between welterwieght world champion Matt Hughes and BJ Penn was actually the best fight of the evening with Hughes winning in the 3rd round by the referee Big John McCarthy stopping the fight.

Fun news stories today. I started off in Pasadena at the try-outs for the Pasadena Rose Parade Royal Court. Over 800 young ladies will eventually be narrowed down to 6 rose princesses and 1 rose queen. This photo is of one young lady as she gives it her best shot in the 15 seconds she's given before the judges. Later in the day I had to go to Santa Ana to cover an Mexican independance parade.

Mexican independance day today. So I worked on the broadcast of the "El Grito" celebration in Huntington Park. It's said to be the biggest congregation of Mexicans outside of Mexico. Most of the day I worked as a utility, running cables and helping out my fellow camera operators. At 8 PM I relieved Armando who was running the main camera shooting the stage. It was awesome because my shot was wired directly into the huge screens on both sides of the stage and broadcast internationally. I was able to use the big screens as my monitors. The largest monitors I've ever worked off of. I was working the camera as Vicente Fox yelled, "Viva Mexico" and my shot was seen around the world as the network cut to the Los Angeles feed.

Photo of my favorite reporter, Ruben Luengas anchor for "En Contexto" as he goes live with members of a Mexican military band by his side.

Shot news today. Covered 9/11 memorial walk out in Sherman Oaks. The walk consisted of apoximately 20 participants with an escort from a fire truck from Fire Station 88 on Sepulvida blvd. The walk ended at the fire station where the monument pictured was dedicated. The monument consist of a piece of steel from the twin towers and a piece of granite from the Pentigon. I spoke with a fire chief there who was a special guest in also baried in the ruble of the twin towers. He stated that he believe skyscrapers should not be built any taller that will allow for evacuation of the building within a 30 minute time frame.

Sent down to South Central L.A. to cover a labor appreciation service at a prominate African-American Church. It was very interesting watching the service. I learned that if you need a job, health insurance, or a good pension you only need to look to Jesus.
