Not surprisingly it started out as a slow news day. I was assigned to cover a couple small festivals when I got the call for a MTA vs. Auto accident just south of downtown on Olympic. The vehicle in the photo was attempting to make a left turn while the metro was about to roll through the same intersection. The driver was killed instantly and his body was still in the car when I arrived. The rear drivers side passenger is said to have stumbled out of the vehicle but died within seconds on the street near by. I ran into a fellow camera operator, Robert from FOX for the first time since I stopped training with him 4 months ago.

Working in casting today out in Santa Monica. Had a 2 hour break during lunch so I decided to the beach and take a walk.

While training with Juan Rivera on the microwave truck, we covered a press conferance given by Mayor Villariagosa at city hall. The mayor was promoting and justifing his plans on taking over control of the school board.

My best friend from teenage years Vinnie was down in Southern California this week for a hair training. He trains hair stylist how to use different hair products. So i gave him a call. He was hanging out in Laguna Beach so I headed down there. We drank and smoke and talked a lot.

Photo from top floor of Los Angeles City Hall. I was shooting a reception for Mayor of San Salvador. Afterward I was headed down in the elevator when I decided to fart right before I got to my floor. I was going to make a quick escape, but when the door opened Mayor of L.A. Villariagosa was standing right there and pushed me back into the elevator. He asked me about how work was going as I hoped he wouldn't smell the fart.

Did remote casting session for Beth Holmes Casting. Started the day at Sessions West to do the studio portion. Then out to the Valley to a small motorbike race track. Both kids and adults rode the track.

Miss Universe Pagent in town. Today the had a garden tea party at the Ritz Carlton in Pasadena. I was lucky enough to be the camera operator covering it for NBC and Telemundo. There were only 3 camera's there so I got to spend lot's of time with all the contestants. a dream come true. this photo is of all the contestants posing on the stairs.

Today at L.A. convention center it was the NCLR (national convention of la rasa) Ex-President Bill Clinton gave a speach on several topics including immigration and the downfalls of the Republican party.



Still at the NCLR convention. The miss Universe pagent is in town this week so 4 contestants came to the convention to hang out at the Telemundo booth. This is a photo of me with; Miss Peru, Mexico, Bolivia, and Argentina.

While in Salt Lake City, I decided to visit some of my old friends. So I called up Vinnie. We were friends as teenage punk rockers in Salt Lake. We hooked up at our other buddie Wayne's house.

At family reunion in Salt Lake city, we lit off fire works out in front of Uncle Don's house. We had ton's of fireworks. We were lighting 4 or 5 fountians at a time and it still took us a couple hours.

Drove to Salt Lake City, Utah for family reunion. Staying at Uncle Don's house in the city of Draper. We had about 50 people show up for the reunion. been on the boardwalk of Atlantic City for a couple days now and it's getting boring. so today for lunch I went to some place on the boardwalk and had a Philly Cheesesteak sandwich and a beer.

The finnish line in Atlantic City. The final crew I was with was Allen Larsen and Jeff Orlowski. We came into Atlantic City about an hour prior to the first solo finisher Daniel Weiss from Austria.

My sister michelle has crewed for the rider Jim Trout on the Firecreek 501. So he was crewing for racer Tinker Juarez on RAAM. I ran into him somewhere in Southern Illinois. So we took a photo together to send to my sister

While in Pratt, Kansas the show producer, Alan Larsen decided we needed some airial footage so he rented a plane for an hour. I got to go up in the plane to shoot the riders. We went up around 6 am and saw the a race team making it's way along the course. We did about 5 or 6 circles of the rider as I shot video.

Last year on RAAM one of the riders, Bob Breedlove was killed when he swerved into the oncoming lane. Many feel that he might have fallen asleep due to sleep deprevation. I actaully filmed him the night before on a summit saying how the race was too hard that year. This year when driving past the location of his death we stopped and took a picture of his memorial.

I ripped my shorts while jumping into position to film someone. I took out my sewing kit and sewed them back together. that lasted the rest of the day. That evening I through away the shorts and got some new ones.

Back on Race Across America. This time I'm shooting for the race itself. So I'm travelling with the Marketing Director Paul Skilbeck and Journalist Danny Chew.

at the South Central farm again today to cover more of the sit in or protest. Green Party Presidential Candidate Ralph Nader showed up and is shown here having a conversation with Julie Butterfly who is tree sitting. She gained fame by sitting in a redwood tree up in Northern California for several months.


This is a photo of Daryl Hanna climbing up into the tree to sit for a while. Several celebrities have joined in on this protest.
(as a side note: several weeks later when the protesters were actually removed from the property it was all over the news how Daryl Hanna was removed from a tree)

Michelle had some sort of party. Afterwards we were cleaning up and she found this drivers license in the couch. we have no idea who the guy in the drivers license is.

An old friend from San Francisco invited me to her BBQ/Bday party. Actually I worked with Veronica Torres on the show Latin Eyes. When I moved down to L.A. we tried doing some segments together but it never worked out. Instead we just go to each other's BBq 's every so often. The pic is her hitting the Pinata.

Nieghbor Julie had BBQ today. Invited the same old friends. We were having trouble getting the coals started until we got some lighter fluid.

south central farm is located on 43rd and Alameda in Los Angeles. It's a few acres of land that was once run by the food bank. they let farmers farm small plots of land thier under the condition that once the owner wanted the land back in 15 years that they would vacate the premisis. Well the Owner now wants his land back and the farmers don't want to leave and are protesting. Actually it's not so much the farmers that are protesting but professional protesters. The way I see it. All the farmers are locals and mostly ethnic immigrants where the protesters are famous white tree huggers who are now tree sitting to protest the eviction.

Shot news out in a small community in South East L.A. They were having some sort of celebration where they paid respect to the town virgin which is the doll in the photo.

Governor Swartzenhager came to East Los Angeles today to sign a bill that relates to schools. Other elected officials present were Mayor Villariagosa and Speaker Fabian Nunez. I ran into someone I had met a year ago. (you see back of her head taking a pic of mayor )When shooting the show "Merge" I worked on an episode where two cousins got a vacation at a resort in Laguna Beach, see February 5, 2005.

Michelle and I went hiking today at Fryman canyon. This is a photo of us after we came back down from the hike.

Did an interview today with Governor Canditate Phil Angeledes. It was at some union rally where they were going to walk the area and spread the word.

Ran a casting session today at Cocalaca studios. Casting director Criag Colvin's place right on Santa Monica Blvd. I like working there because it's within walking distance.

More black and Latino gang violence in South Central. I spent all day hanging out or Staking out this school because rumor had it that there was going to be a riot on cinco de mayo. Nothing really happened.

A very sad day. Today I dropped my pipe, "The Enterprise" and broke it. I've had that pipe for over 7 years. I got it in San Francisco at some head shop on Haight Street when I lived there.

Did a story in South Central L.A. today. The 77th police district. A reporter and I did a ride along with a police sergeant. He took us around showing us all the gang graffitti and where someone had been killed the night before. Latino on Black violence. There was a shrine on the location with candles and all. The mother of the victim was there. When the reporter I was with asked if we could do an interview with her, some Latino woman who was just walking along the street helped her clean up and straighten her shirt and hair. Very touching experience.

today I met the man. I was at the assignment desk at telemundo when we saw that Hulk Hogan was on the Tonight Show. I ran down to the midway and saw the limo waiting to pick him up so I waited around. There were a few youngsters waiting around to see him also. So he came out of the studio with his wife and family. After his family got in the limo it looked like hulk was going to join them. So I yelled out. " Hey Hulk! How about a Photo?". I heard him say "ok" and he came over. the security guard put us In line and I was the first one. So as he came over I stuck out my hand and He grabbed it and we shot the photo.

This is a Chilean restaraunt relatively close to my place called Rincon Chileano. I had gone there once for lunch and had Pastelle de Choclo. Liked it so brought back Jackie and my dad. we didn't have such a good experience this time because it seemed like locals only there.

Latino leaders held a press conferance across the street from MacArthur park. They are calling for employers to support those who choose to do the work boycott.


Went to La Raza radio station to interview radio dj "El Raton" who was talking about the phone calls he'd recieved from people about the work boycott.

Childrens Earth day out in Santa Monica. I went to a kids indoor zoo where the zoo keeper let me into the cage with this wild Bobcat.

Cardinal Mahoney at the Cathedral downtown called for people to go to work. The illigal immigrants were planning a day when no illigal would go to work.
